  • MOYES BACKS BAINES

The Everton defender Leighton Baines has been one of the best left backs in the world according to the manager David Moyes. The 28-year-old has been in stunning form for both club and country, which has even led to the talk of him replacing Ashley Cole as the main defender for the England national team.

He has been linked with several clubs like Manchester United over the years, while Everton have been holding out for a fee in the region of £ 20 million. The defender was once again at this imperious best in the match against West Brom during the midweek action.

Baines scored both goals for Everton in the 2-1 win over Steve Clarke’s men to help sustain a challenge for the top four positions by Everton. The last time Everton finished in the top four was in 2005. Since then, they have not been at the best in the first half of the season and it has subsequently resulted in them finishing closer to the mid-table positions.

This season, though, they have come out of the blocks faster than expected and, as a result, they are just a few places below the top four. Moyes is looking to bring in a striker from Spain during the January transfer window in order to strengthen the squad and push for a top four finish.

“He is not our player. The boy is a very good player but on this occasion we could not conclude the deal. There are lot of things connected with signing a player. All those things play a part. All those things combined,” said the Everton manager regarding speculation that they will be signing the 27-year-old Spanish international Alvaro Negredo. Everton recently pulled out of a deal to sign the Dutch striker Fer. The club had agreed an £ 8.5 million fee.

  • NO BUYS

The Everton manager David Moyes has revealed that he will not be making any buys on a permanent basis in the January transfer window because he does not have enough money. Hence, he will have to rely on loan deals in order to strengthen his squad.

David Moyes has always been content with the fact that he does not have a lot of money to spend. This situation has worsened recent years with the club has had a lot of financial difficulties, which have even restricted the ability to bring in replacements for players like Jack Rodwell who have left in the summer.
Everton are currently chasing for fourth spot in the Premier league, which will provide them with the opportunity to play in the Champions League next season.

The club has finished in fourth position only once in the last seven years. Hence, Moyes is extremely keen on grabbing this opportunity with both hands. Finishing in the Champions League group stages will be extremely beneficial for a club like Everton because of the revenues of a close to £ 30 million. Yet, for this season, the manager will not have any money to spend and will rely almost exclusively on loan deals.

“The chief executive has said there is a very small amount available. Maybe a couple of loans, if we could come up with them. Everton could be a platform for us — a difficult one but no more difficult than Manchester United last year (when Newcastle won 3-0). I feel that we can beat them. If you take November and December out, it was a great year. Unfortunately you can’t, so next year we have to put 12 good months together,” said the Everton manager. Moyes recently saw his team managed a 2-1 win over Newcastle, as they returned to winning ways.

  • MOYES SLAMS REF

The Everton manager David Moyes has expressed his displeasure at the way the referee Michael Oliver turned down a number of good shouts for a penalty in the recent 1-1 draw with Arsenal.

Everton were playing against Arsenal in a fixture that has been extremely tough for them in recent years. However, they managed to get a credible draw from the match after a late goal from Marouane Fellaini equalised the match after Arsenal had taken the lead through Theo Walcott early in the match. Despite this point from a difficult fixture, Moyes was extremely unhappy with the performance of the referee.

Everton could have been easily given a second-half penalty after the midfielder Steven Pienaar was found by the former Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta in the box. However, the Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger decided to disagree because he felt that it was not a penalty. Theo Walcott managed to open the lead for Arsenal after just 52 seconds. However, Arsenal were unable to hold on to the lead much longer after Marouane Fellaini, who scored his fifth goal of the season, scored with a great shot after just 28 min. The draw leaves Everton just one point above Arsenal in the table.

“We should have had a penalty. The players had to earn everything because we weren’t getting a jot. I thought we played really well against a good Arsenal team and a lot of games are decided by decisions referees make or don’t make. We got nothing tonight. I wasn’t going to play Jelavic yesterday but he said he felt better and could play. I thought he was much better in this game as well. I was a lot happier with him,” said Moyes. Everton will face the Premier league champions Manchester City at the Etihad stadium this weekend.

  • Everton Football Club v West Ham

The Barclays Premier League match between Everton and West Ham is scheduled for the 22nd December at West Ham’s stadium.

Currently Everton are enjoying a reasonably successful season and are sitting just below fourth in the Premier League and looking to cement a place in the Champions League. This will be no easy ride though with the race looking to be as exciting as the title race itself – at time of writing Arsenal, Everton and WBA are all on 27 points just behind Tottenham in 4th, equal on Chelsea with 29.

Looking at the kinds of betting odds that are being offered by the bookmakers, a win for West Ham is priced around 11/4, while an Everton win is priced at 11/8 with a draw at 19/4; so a bet on either club could be worthwhile.

Delving back into previous matches between the two sides is quite revealing. In the 2010/2011 season both of their Premier League matches resulted in draws and in the 2009/2010 season, at Everton the game was drawn 2-2 and at West Ham the game was won by Everton 2-1.

In all the games that they have ever played at West Ham (63 in total) 40% were won by the home club, 36% by Everton, and 24% were drawn. However such long term statistical data is about as meaningless as using past roulette numbers to predict future spins at an online casino (have a look here River Belle’s new football themed games and many sports themed games reviews on the best Canadian casino game – a safe place to be hedging your bets if the super tight race for fourth is not where you feel comfortable investing your money.

Any football match result is to some extent influenced by the fans, and one of the more influential bunches of fans are the Everton ones. If you think that this will have a significant effect on the result of the oncoming match, then a bet on Everton could be a winning one.

  • MOYES AIMS FOR FOURTH

The Everton manager David Moyes has said that he will be extremely pleased with Everton finished in the top four at the end of the season, but has said that it will be extremely difficult with the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham competing for the same positions.

Everton finished in the top four once in the last decade. The 2005-06 season so Everton finish in this position, but they could not make the most out of it by qualifying for the group stages of the Champions league. Instead, they were knocked out in the play-off round itself.

Since then, the Everton manager has seen the likes of Manchester city and Tottenham gain a strong foothold in the race to finish in the fourth position due to the investment from new owners. Everton have struggled against this competition and have consequently been relegated to the Europa league hold the last few seasons. However, the club are once again back challenging for a spot near the Champions league this time around after they have made a great start to the season. So far, they have already secured 14 points from seven matches played so far, which has put them in the fourth position ahead of both Tottenham and Arsenal.

“With the quality of the Premier League it is really hard to qualify for the Champions League but I wouldn’t say we can’t do it. It is possible and you have to aim for that. If we fall short and end up in the Europa League then so be it, but in recent years we have been pretty close, finishing sixth, seventh or eighth, so we want to do that at the very least,” said the Everton manager David Moyes after winning the Premier league manager of the month award for a spectacular four weeks.

  • MOYES PRAISES BAINES

The Everton manager David Moyes was full of praise for the Everton defender Leighton Baines, who scored the penalty in the 2-2 draw with Wigan during the weekend. Everton were going into the final few minutes of the match starring at another defeat in the season.

David Moyes and his team certainly started the new season in great fashion, but the defeats against West Brom have taken the shine off things slightly. It would have been yet another poor result if they have lost to Wigan, who are struggling down at the bottom of the table. However, a penalty scored comprehensively by the defender Leighton Baines in the final few minutes of the match helped them get a point from this match.

The Everton manager reckons that the England international Leighton Baines is currently one of the best left back in the world. However, it is extremely difficult for him to get the recognition that he deserves. The 28-year-old Leighton Baines is undoubtedly one of the best players at Everton. He was recently linked with a £ 20 million move to Manchester United over the summer. However, Everton raised the transfer money rather by selling the 21-year-old midfielder Jack Rodwell instead of Leighton Baines.

“Leighton has been a big asset for us for a long time and we are hoping to have the same [impact] down the right and in other areas as well. We had it with Jelavic getting forward and getting us another goal. Leighton was extraordinary for us. At times he was unstoppable – he was that good. I think we were disappointed we were trailing and it was a great effort to stick at it and get a hard-earned point,” said David Moyes after the match. Everton will be facing QPR next weekend before taking on Liverpool.

  • YOBO EXITS

Everton manager David Moyes is likely to increase his efforts to sign the Inter Milan player Luc Castaignos after he has secured new transfer funds following the exit of defender Joseph Yobo.

The Nigerian international has been part of the Everton setup in the last few seasons and will be a major miss after he recently completed his move to Turkish club Fenerbache. The two clubs have agreed an undisclosed fee for the defender, who has not been getting regular first team action in the last couple of seasons. Prior to the arrival of players like Distin, Joseph Yobo was a regular for the bulk of Everton fixtures.

Due to the fact that Everton struggled to score goals last season, it is understood that the manager has made it a priority to sign a young and fresh talent before the end of the transfer window. With only a few weeks of the transfer window remaining, Everton have been linked with the Inter Milan striker Luc Castaignos. The 19-year-old has drawn attention from some of the biggest clubs in the world, but it is thought that he will be favouring a move to Everton in order to get regular first-team football.

“I would love to thank Everton and the management of Fenerbahce for reaching a deal. My family have settled well in Turkey and enjoy the life there, so I’m glad they will be re-uniting with friends here. The permanent switch is done and I am also switching to help the team do well on the pitch. It’s been a long journey into achieving this dream and now is the time to pay the club and fans back with a great performance,” said the former Everton defender Joseph Yobo after announcing his departure from the club. Everton will be facing Manchester United on the opening day of the season.

  • VELLIOS KEEN TO IMPRESS

Everton striker Apostolos Vellios has said that he wants to impress the manager David Moyes by continuing the goal scoring form he achieved in a match against Morecambe. Everton played their first pre-season match against Morecambe.

Apostolos Vellios, who came on as a substitute in a number of matches and rescued Everton on numerous occasions, opened the scoring for the pre-season tally in this match. He has said that he wants to get more goals in the pre-season, which will help him impress manager David Moyes. Apostolos Vellios comes into the season after having just won the Everton’s Young Player of the Season award last season.

Apostolos Vellios has made no secret that he is looking to impress the manager more than anyone else because it is the tendency of players of his age. He has said that playing regular football is extremely important at this stage and he cannot wait to get the next taste of first-team football. He has also said that it was extremely good to score against Morecambe because it has helped him improve his confidence level. He is also extremely satisfied with his efforts in the gym after he is now significantly stronger than before.

“Of course the players my age are trying to impress the manager. The older players are maybe just focused on getting ready for the new season. For me I can’t wait for every game as it is an opportunity to try and do well. It was nice to score (against Morecambe), but the main thing is that we won. We are Everton and we must win these games. That game is out of the way now and we have another one on Wednesday night,” said Apostolos Vellios after the match against Morecambe. Everton begin the new season against Manchester United at Goodison Park.

  • BARKLEY WILL BE WORLD CLASS

Everton coach Jimmy Lumsden has said that Everton midfielder Ross Barkley is as good as any player in the centre of midfield.

The 18-year-old has become the latest player to come through the ranks at Everton. He has managed to overshadow Jack Rodwell, who has suffered a string of hamstring injuries.

As a result, the spotlight is now on Ross Barkley, who has been linked with a move to Chelsea and Manchester United in the past. Even as he made his senior team debut for Everton, he has been linked with a move to a big Premier league club.

Everton coach Jimmy Lumsden has said that he is certainly not surprised by the progress young Barkley has made. He has also said that he expects Ross Barkley to be a main feature in the centre of midfield of a big European club in the near future.

He has been spoken of in the same breath as Wayne Rooney, who left for Manchester United in 2004 for £ 30 million. It was a world record deal for youngster and the Everton coach expects it to be broken once Barkley decides to leave Everton. Jimmy Lumsden has been a coach at Everton for the last 10 years, and he sees Barkley as the best ever from the youth academy.

“He’s as good as anyone I’ve seen in the middle of the park, and could be anything he wants. He is quiet but the moment he steps on the field he has got the confidence in his ability for all to see. He’s got the touch, the awareness on the ball and the flair. Currently he’s filling out to be a big lad as well which will help him play in the Premier League. The boy had a couple of injuries which held him back but the boy has no worries now. He looks the business,” said Lumsden.

  • ROUND RUES PENALTY DECISION

Everton assistant manager Steve Round has said that his team were denied a clear-cut penalty in the recent 0-0 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers during the second.

Even though there is nothing to play for the remaining two matches of the season for Everton, David Moyes will be hoping that his club finished above archrivals Liverpool in the table after many years.

Everton will be facing Sunderland on the last day of the season. Liverpool are four points behind Everton in the race for the seventh position, but they have an advantage in the form of an extra game.

Hence, Everton do need to win against Newcastle United at Goodison Park on the final day of the season in order to realistically think about finishing above Liverpool on the table. Due to this complex situation, Everton would have been hoping for three points from the Wolverhampton Wanderers match.

However, Terry Connor rallied his troops to a fighting 0-0 draw, but the result told only the story according to assistant manager Steve Round. Everton had a number of chances to win the match, but they squandered each and every one of them. Steven Pienaar was guilty of missing a number of good chances for Everton, as Wolverhampton Wanderers hung on.

“The players are very disappointed they didn’t win. They had enough dominance in possession and opportunities to win the game definitely. But we were a bit wasteful in front of goal, or we didn’t make the right final pass. We just couldn’t take that defining moment. Obviously we had a perfectly good goal disallowed. I’ve seen it again and he’s definitely onside. The form Nikica is in at the moment is fantastic. We expect that of him and we’re more surprised when he doesn’t score. His return for the price we paid is incredible,” said Round after the match.
