Everton assistant manager Steve Round has said that his team were denied a clear-cut penalty in the recent 0-0 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers during the second.

Even though there is nothing to play for the remaining two matches of the season for Everton, David Moyes will be hoping that his club finished above archrivals Liverpool in the table after many years.

Everton will be facing Sunderland on the last day of the season. Liverpool are four points behind Everton in the race for the seventh position, but they have an advantage in the form of an extra game.

Hence, Everton do need to win against Newcastle United at Goodison Park on the final day of the season in order to realistically think about finishing above Liverpool on the table. Due to this complex situation, Everton would have been hoping for three points from the Wolverhampton Wanderers match.

However, Terry Connor rallied his troops to a fighting 0-0 draw, but the result told only the story according to assistant manager Steve Round. Everton had a number of chances to win the match, but they squandered each and every one of them. Steven Pienaar was guilty of missing a number of good chances for Everton, as Wolverhampton Wanderers hung on.

“The players are very disappointed they didn’t win. They had enough dominance in possession and opportunities to win the game definitely. But we were a bit wasteful in front of goal, or we didn’t make the right final pass. We just couldn’t take that defining moment. Obviously we had a perfectly good goal disallowed. I’ve seen it again and he’s definitely onside. The form Nikica is in at the moment is fantastic. We expect that of him and we’re more surprised when he doesn’t score. His return for the price we paid is incredible,” said Round after the match.
