Everton boss bemoans poor finishing and focus after Watford defeat

Everton manager Marco Silva has admitted that the club were not fully focused during the Premier League encounter against West Ham United which they eventually lost by a 3-1 scoreline. The Toffees had gone into the clash with an unbeaten record under their new manager but they succumbed to a rather disappointing defeat with the Hammers getting their first points on board for the season.

Speaking after the game, Silva said: “We didn’t perform in our level to win. In this level you cannot make mistakes like we made. When you create chances you have to score. There is something about our focus that we have to do something about in important moments of the game. We scored to make it 2-1 but in the second-half, even without a good performance and playing more with our heart and mind, they create three or four chances and score three goals and we create four or five clear chances and score just one goal. “We created enough chances to achieve a different result.”

Everton were hugely disappointing from top to the bottom of the field and Cenk Tosun, in particular, struggled to end his scoring drought after failing to make the most of three scoring opportunities. As such, the Merseyside outfit succumbed to their first defeat of the Premier League season and things may not any easier hereafter with an away game at Arsenal this weekend.

The Toffees have barely defeated the Gunners since the start of the Premier League era and they can expect another tough outing at the Emirates Stadium, where they have yet to win a top-flight game. Everton are currently occupying the 10th position in the standings with six points and Silva will be hoping that a few of the injured players including summer signings Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes are able to return in the forthcoming games.
