Ronald Koeman has set his sights upon a top six finish in the Premier league after managing a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace during the weekend.
The result coupled with Manchester United dropping points against Stoke City mean that the blues are only five points behind the Red Devils. United currently occupy the sixth spot, but they will probably present the biggest competition to Everton. Jose Mourinho’s team are unbeaten in more than 10 games across all competitions. Everton bossKoeman, though, has seen his team win four out of the last five games.
This run comes after the team struggled for just over 2 months, after making a good start to life underKoeman. It now appears that Everton players are starting to understand their manager and vice versa.
Even though the club have had some serious injuries this season, they have been able to power ahead with some brilliant results. One of the best results during this run would be the 4-0 win over Manchester City at Goodison Park. Everton were in danger of letting two points drop against Crystal Palace, but right back Seamus Coleman came up with in 87th minute goal in order to secure three points.
The club’s next match is against Stoke City away from home. “We know it is difficult to beat the big ones in the Premier League. But we are in a good way and we would like to keep it that way and keep the momentum,” said Koeman. The manager was also asked about midfielder Ross Barkley’s performance. There has been a lot of speculation about the future of the 23-year-old, as he does not seem to retain the full faith of the manager.“Against Palace we saw that he [Barkley] was free and had some good shots. That is what we need, to have that support from Ross. Not picking the ball up from defenders. We need him in the final part, the attacking third,” said Koeman.
