Marco Silva praises Everton’s character after Burnley mauling

Everton manager Marco Silva has hailed the character of the Toffees squad after they secured comfortable 5-1 triumph over Burnley on the road. The Merseyside outfit were given a hiding last weekend after they suffered an embarrassing 6-2 league defeat to Tottenham Hotspur but they managed to make amends with an easy win against the Clarets.

Speaking after the game, Silva was elated with the performance of the team and welcomed the fan support at Turf Moor following the dampening home loss to Spurs, he said: “The first thing I’d like to say is this is for our fans and our players. The fans welcomed our players before the match, which is fantastic after a tough result on Sunday. And the players as well, they deserve this. It was a good win for us and now is the moment to rest and prepare for the other quick games.”

The Merseyside outfit made a quick start from the books against the Clarets and they were 3-0 up within the opening 25 minutes of the game. From then, they managed to control the match and eventually sealed a comfortable 5-1 win after the Burnley defence struggled to cope with the movement of the Toffees’ players.

Meanwhile, the game had plenty of positives with summer signings Yerry Mina and Lucas Digne finding the scoresheet and the latter, in particular, stole the show with his maiden brace for the Toffees from the left side of the defence. With the victory, the Merseyside outfit managed to end a four-match winless league run and this sees them within five points off Manchester United, who are currently holding the final European qualification spot in sixth.

Next up, the Toffees are scheduled to face Brighton & Hove Albion on the road and the game promises to be tricky for the visitors, given Chris Hughton’s side have generally performed better when they have entertained teams at the AMEX Stadium.
